Internal link is termed as the link that directs visitors to another page of the website. Consider an example that you are reading an article on Google named "Electronics". The term "Electronics" contains a hypertext, upon clicking which directs you to another webpage within the same website. Here, the hypertext is considered as internal link.

Internal linking is a great approach for increasing anchor text links of a webpage, which further describes about the content of your site to the search engines that help in enhancing page rankings.

Although there are several points that you can remember to have good internal link building, but the following three are the most important:

  • Link to pages from relevant pages only
  • Use anchor text for internal linking by adding target keyword in it. Never use the terms like "click here" or "more info" in the linking text (anchor text of the link).
  • If there are two links to the same page, use NoFollow tag in one of them.
